Description Our client is looking for a valuation officer to process all valuation work for Council Tax and Business Rates, carry out telephone and postal reviews of all benefits, awards, exemptions, concessions and discounts administered by the Revenues and Benefits Service and provide administrative support to the Revenue Inspectors, involving a high level of public contact.

1 To maintain and update the Council Tax Banding and Local Rating Valuation Lists,

2 To maintain and update the Council Tax, Business Rates and Inspections property databases

3 To undertake manual calculations in connection with liability work.

4 To carry out telephone and postal reviews for Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit / Council Tax Support, Council Tax Single Person Discount and any other Revenues and Benefits administered awards, exemptions, concessions, benefits relief’s and discounts requiring review, ensuring accurate and factual information is recorded and timely follow up action is taken.

5 To access, apply and quote relevant Benefit, Business Rate or Council Tax regulations in all decisions.

6 Provide end to end administrative support for Revenue Inspectors

7 To make decisions within given guidelines using available information, own experience and initiative, in accordance with relevant legislation, Council and Government Policy and Quality and Performance standards as prescribed by the Service and /or the Council

8 To ensure effective liaison and dialogue with Benefit recipients and Council Taxpayers and Businesses; Revenues & Benefits employees; Customer Services staff – telephony and face to face; HMRC – Valuation Office Agency Department for Work and Pensions ; Landlords / Managing and or Rating Agents

9 Assist in the instruction and on the job training of staff which may involve 121 training and support with new or less experienced members of staff.

10 Ensure that any suspicions of irregular or fraudulent claims or accounts are promptly referred to the Corporate Fraud Unit.

11 To have access to confidential information from a variety of sources

12 Identify and suggest improvements to processes and procedures and assist in the review and design of relevant documents, letters and processes as required.

13 Assist in the promotion and maximisation of the take up of discounts, allowances and concessions as required.

14 To carry out other duties, as required, which are reasonable in terms of the nature and level of the post.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5pm





Qualifications 5 GCSE’s (including Maths and English) or equivalent OR At least 12 months experience of working in a office environment involving public contact
